THE LEGACY OF TRUMP " PROMISES MADE, PROMISES BROKEN

The promises that he has made have been broken one after another and the hope he has given to us has been dismal at best. Quite the opposite of the previous president in more ways than one and very different from even other Republican presidents have been more transparent and honest with their constituents than this one and that is saying something about how far we have fallen and how truly awful this current president is.

Obama kept his promises and gave true hope to the people of this country and that is the complete opposite of Trump and his vision for America and the many, many promises that he has broken as president. Of course, the supporters of him do not see this fact and often argue the opposite and say that Obama broke his promises and that with Trump, “promises made, promises kept” and that is the most absurd thing I have ever heard as it is completely untrue, Trump has been the one who has not kept his promises, not Obama.

Some other promises that he has broken have been when he claimed he would be the most pro LGBTQ president in history, and he has proven to be the most anti-LGBTQ president we have ever had. He has proven that he has no interest to honor his promise to protect the rights of LGBTQ Americans and his track record up to this point has shown this fact and the fact that he has the most anti equality policies of any president we have had in this country shows that he broke his promise to stand for this community and their rights.

His ban on transgenders and refusal to commit to things like the Equality Act to protect LGBTQ people shows that his promise to be pro-equality was yet one more broken promise and one more scam that he pulled on the people of this country and for that he should never be trusted. He also promised to defend marriage equality and he has refused to do that as well, and in fact, he has appointed judges who plan to overturn the historic ruling making same-sex marriage legal, do not let him or his supporters tell you otherwise.

He promised to release his tax returns once he took office and still to this day has not done so. It is customary for people running for the presidency to release their taxes and Trump broke tradition and refused to do so, but then made false promises to release them once he took office, proving once again that he never planned to follow through on that promise, just like he has failed to follow through on all his promises he has made.

Trump has promised the world to his supporters and has failed to deliver, and the saddest part is that they actually think that he is working for them and has their best interest at heart, he for sure does not. Trump is like the star player for a sports team who signs a lucrative contract and then fails to deliver the goods. That is exactly what we have here with this president and the future will equal the present and the past with this guy running the show, and trust me, it is without a doubt a show, a clown show that is.

He promises things that he has no intention on following through with or things that are not even possible to follow through on, like the Mexico wall promise as a good reference point. He knew that he could not make them pay for his wall yet he chose to make that the central point of his campaign and promise that they would pay for the wall and now that they aren’t, he is backtracking and claiming that he never said that they would directly pay for it, even though he did and not just one time but on multiple occasions.

Another promise that comes to mind is his promise to deliver a “great, beautiful plan for healthcare”, he has not had any ideas that would address the growing problem of Americans not having access to affordable, quality healthcare coverage and instead comes out with statements like, “I never knew healthcare could be so complicated” and “it is a process”. I suppose my message to him would be that it is not a complex issue at all Mr. President, that is if you listen to the needs and wants of the people of this country, which he never does.

Like his other promises, he has failed to keep this one as well. It is not a surprise though as he doesn’t keep his promises to anyone and this trend did not just start when he became president, it is a pattern that he has followed throughout his personal and professional life, so we the people of this country should have known it would carry on with his presidency, but of course, his supporters are gullible enough to believe these promises.

He promised to racially unite the country and since he has been president the exact opposite has taken place. He defends white supremacists over defending the civil rights of minorities. Now, just how is that racially uniting the country like he had promised he would do?

It certainly isn’t, it is contributing to the racial divisions that he and those who support him have created. It is just more proof of his broken promises that has been a central part of his time in office and more evidence of how he has no interest in giving the American people what they want and he never will give them what they want as he only cares about one person and one person only and that person is Donald J. Trump.

Speaking of broken promises, one more that he has broken that should for sure be mentioned is his promise to defend vital social programs like Social Security and Medicare. He even to this day claims that he will “protect Medicare” yet his plan for that program is to cut it to the tune of tens of millions of Americans losing their precious Medicare benefits that they are due and that they worked for and despite his promise to protect it, the truth is that he plans to get rid of it and his plans are in line with doing just that and the same is true for Social Security and other social net programs like food stamps and Medicaid.

The promise he made to lower drug prices also was broken.

He is in bed with the pharmaceutical companies so it was always unlikely that he would lower drug prices and risk losing those political donors and the support of the drug manufacturers, he would not do that. He has made the promise to do it on multiple occasions and every time that he says it, his supporters believe it, but the majority of the smart American people know better than to buy into it.

He also made a promise to bring jobs back to America and that has not happened and likely will not happen. Less than 50% of federal contracting jobs are based here in the United States with American companies and the most of the manufacturing jobs with American companies are not based here on U.S. soil and the list goes on and on with companies that outsource their jobs overseas, Trump promised to bring those jobs back and he has not done so, but why would he, he himself and his family make their products overseas at sweatshops in China and elsewhere and those jobs aren’t coming here either.

Another laugher of a promise and statement of hope is the one where he said and continues to say that we are going to get so tired of “winning”. We have not won anything with him as president, yet he continues to repeat that word over and over and there is no evidence that America is winning under him. There is evidence that we have lost and continue to lose with him running things and that will continue to happen if he is re-elected.

He promises things knowing full well that either the thing that he promised is not even possible or that he never had any intention on following through on the said promised thing. Either way, his promises add up to squat and everyone can see this except for his supporters and that is quite sad if not pathetic. He made the promise that he would rid the government of corruption and then goes and becomes the most corrupt president we have ever had. The things he promises are quite ironic when you think about it and to call others corrupt who weren’t is funny since he is the corrupt one.

He promised that he would be honest with the American people about what his administration was doing and how they were supposed to fix the corruption in our government, but instead he has covered up the corrupt acts that his very own people in the government have committed. His promises are not sincere as you can see from what has transpired as if they were, he would do his best to make these promises come to light, but he doesn’t care to do what is best for this country and even though he caters to his base, it is all lip service and has no meaning, he never intends on doing anything to benefit anyone, including his loyal and naïve supporters who back him.

I wish they could see this and would acknowledge the massive mistake that they made by voting for him, but sadly, they won’t and will vote for him again and as a result will continue to reap the benefits of falling for the false promises and artificial hope that he pushes. They rather believe that everything is just wonderful and that is the furthest thing from the truth, the things they were promised by President Trump haven’t happened for them and won’t happen either and they either cannot see that or just cannot accept it.

Besides the many broken promises that he has made there is something else he has done that should be mentioned and that is the false hope that he provides to not only his supporters, but to the country as a whole. He was supposed to give hope to the many people suffering in this country as that is what presidents do, but instead he took away hope from people and chose to serve his own interests and use the office of the presidency to make his own life better.

Forget false hope, he hasn’t given any hope to the people of this country and has taken away the hope and change that took place under President Obama and in just a short period of time he has taken away the hope for the people who suffer when he was supposed to be there for them and help them. He gave false hope when he promised to provide jobs to people who didn’t have them, protect vital programs like Social Security and Medicare, and stand up for civil rights and has not done any of that, not one bit.

He hasn’t given the citizens of this country hope, quite the opposite actually. He has taken their hope away and made their lives more difficult and for some, he has made their lives simply unbearable. It was Obama who gave real hope and brought real change to this country and our people, but with this guy we have no hope and the change has been all for the worse and that is a fact that simply cannot be denied, no matter how hard he tries.

One way that he gives false hope is in his message. He has the slogan “Make America Great Again” yet he has not done a single thing to make us great. The slogan gives hope to people and did so to his supporters, they repeat that slogan daily, so it must mean something to them. They hashtag #MAGA all of the time on social media and repeat the broken promises as if these promises have been kept, they truly believe in the false hope that he has provided to them, but just like with the rest of his stuff, the smart Americans, don’t buy it and never will.

Even with the crimes that he has obviously committed don’t seem to bother these people. They defend him no matter what he does or no matter how many promises he has broken or how much false hope he gives to them. For them, they think that he is great and can do no wrong and have no interest in the truth or to see what is truly going on and that is the saddest part.

The ways that Trump manipulates his supporters are endless and like something that we have never seen with a president and their base before. He promises them things and then pulls back, and they refuse to ever call him out on those pullbacks and those broken promises and the false hope that goes with it all. He knows how to work his supporters and to keep them on his side even when he fails to uphold his oath to them, and to this country.

He is like an addict who promises to change over and over and still never does and his supporters are like those who enable that addict. Trump promises to be the most transparent and least corrupt president in the history of presidents, yet the opposite is true with him and how he conducts his presidency.

He takes corruption and abuse of power to new levels, levels that we have never seen before and likely will never see again, yet his loyal followers continue to defend him and his promise to “Make America Great Again”, as we can clearly see by now, it has never been less great and more embarrassing.

Just like they say in professional sports, records are made to be broken. We can use the same line of thinking with Trump and his promises. His promises were made to be broken and he for sure has lived up to that ideal as he has broken every promise that has come out of his mouth and I am sure for the remainder of his time in office there will be more promises made by him that will in fact be broken by him, that is the trend that we are seeing and sadly, will continue to see.

I remember when Barack Obama gave that famous “Hope and Change” speech and then went on to live up to those very ideals outlined in that speech and in fact was honest in what he promised to the American people and did his very best to follow through on those promises that he committed to during his campaign and early days of his presidency.
