THE CARNAGE CONTINUES

Less than a week ago our nation endured yet another mass shooting when a disturbed young man killed three innocent people and injured more than a dozen others before taking his own life at a food festival in California.

We have seen this same story so many times before and will again. The president and Republicans as a whole will not address the issue other than to give their "Thoughts and Prayers" to the victims and their families. We do not need thoughts and prayers when it comes to this issue, we need our elected officials to take meaningful action and address gun violence.

Even as I am writing this, news broke of a possible active shooter in Texas with the possibility of multiple shooters. This is still a developing scene but it just goes to show the world we live in and the growing level of gun violence in America that just continues to get worse.

The carnage just never seems to end and our elected officials continue to choose guns over the people killed by them. Obama would give teary speeches after a mass shooting and would follow those emotional speeches by actions aimed to curb gun violence and end this madness. Then you have Trump who offers meaningless "thoughts and prayers" at best and who shows no emotion and who helps the NRA fight against the common sense gun reform that we need.

Gun violence is an epidemic and mass shootings are part of that epidemic in this nation that we all call home. America cannot be great until we deal with this problem that has plagued our country for far too long with no end in sight or solution that will bring an end to the death and carnage that continues daily.

This makes me angry and it should make us all angry. We cannot even go out shopping or to a food festival or to a movie or to school without fear of being shot. These mass shootings have been happening everywhere and anywhere, nowhere is safe for us it appears and I fear nowhere will be safe until our country makes the tough choices and addresses this issue once and for all.

In a nation that addresses epidemics in other areas like diseases, sex trafficking, and much more it is completely unacceptable that we continue to do nothing on this issue as shooting after shooting happens and innocent lives are taken. We can make a difference and we can end gun violence.

Now is the time. Enough is enough!
